Watch out for some female 3x3 hoopers in the country!
As the PBA relaunches its 3x3 tournament for women, one of the six teams set for action is raring to make its mark in the league.
The Uratex Dream, led by team captain Kaye Pingol, look to further cement their position as the standard in local women’s 3x3 hoops come the Invitational WPBA 3x3.
The Dream will be anchored by Pingol, the no. 5-ranked women’s 3x3 player in the Philippines. Uratex also boasts a strong core that includes Sam Harada, Eunique Chan, Shanda Anies, Cecilia Junsay, and April Siat.
Uratex recently bagged the bronze medal in the Jumpshot 3x3 International Tournament at Bukit Panjang Plaza in Singapore.
Team owner Peachy Medina has since expressed her excitement for the return of the WPBA 3x3.
The last time the PBA held a women's 3x3 tournament was back in 2015-2016 season. Blackwater emerged victorious in the Philippine Cup, claiming the inaugural title. NLEX and GlobalPort (now NorthPort) dominated the Governors’ and Commissioner's Cup, respectively.
“It’s a longtime coming and we’re happy to be part of the rise of women’s 3x3 basketball on the local front. We’re just happy to compete and we’ll make sure to give it our all in the WPBA 3x3,” said team owner Peachy Medina.
Uratex will get to prove its mettle as the Dream will face a stacked field which includes Gilas A, Gilas B, Philippine Air Force, Philippine Navy, and Angelis Resort.
All six teams will participate in a single-round elimination stage during the tournament from January 22 to 23 at Ayala Malls Circuit Makati.
This will continue on January 29 to 30 at Ayala Malls Market! Market!, and on February 5 and 6 at Ayala Malls Manila Bay.
The top four teams will progress to the crossover semifinals in a knockout format, after which the top contenders will face each other in a knockout match to determine the title winner which will be held on February 19 at Ayala Malls Glorietta.
