New team, new jersey number.

James Yap said he is moving on from the No. 18 which was emblazoned on his jersey as he copped a pair of MVP plums and lifted seven trophies in the PBA, including a rare Grand Slam.

The former Rain or Shine star is set to officially sign with Blackwater tomorrow, a move that will reunite him with coach Jeff Cariaso.

“The jersey number I’ve always had since I started playing serious basketball… from Hua Siong College Iloilo, to UE, to PBL and then PBA. I guess it’s safe to say that this number will always be a part of me, my career, my whole life,” read Yap's poignant message on Instagram.

“Thank you, God, for the privilege, the blessings, the awards and championships I got while carrying this number. Grateful ako sa lahat ng hirap at lahat ng saya na dumating sa buhay ko, habang bitbit ko ang number na 'to," he further wrote.

His new teammate Troy Rosario has carried the No. 18 since the former National U standout was traded to the Bossing from TNT.

From now on, Yap will wear No. 15.

“As I move into a new team, a number will be given to me. Sana, suportahan ninyo pa rin ako, wala namang magbabago… Iiwanan ko lang ang number 18, pero hindi ang BASKETBALL,” he added.

"Thank you and goodbye, number 18. That was a meaningful and unforgettable run."

He made sure, though, that his message would not end on a sad note as he introduced the next chapter of his famed basketball career, albeit sporting a different jersey and number this time.

"Say hello to your new Bossing, James Yap, number 15," he said.
