San Miguel disposed of Rain or Shine and TNT to post a 2-0 win-loss tally in the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup.
There was no hint of championship hangover as San Miguel raced off to a scintillating start in the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup.
Coming off their Commissioner’s Cup conquest, the Beermen didn’t show any sign of rust in disposing of Rain or Shine and rival TNT for a 2-0 win-loss record.
What’s even more impressive was superstars June Mar Fajardo and CJ Perez are still trying to regain full strength from a calf and ankle injuries, respectively.
The seven-time MVP Fajardo said with a competitive field in the All-Filipino conference, the Beermen have very little time to grope for form.
He wasn’t exactly wrong.
At one point, perennial league doormats Blackwater and Terrafirma even took the pole, with the former jumping to a 3-0 win-loss tally before bowing to Robert Bolick and NLEX.

“Kailangan namin mag step up talaga. Yung kumpetisyon tumataas na rin. Yung ibang teams sobrang lakas na. Wala na mahinang team,” he said.
As he says that though, Fajardo also didn’t look like he skipped a beat.
While he came off the bench in the first two outings, Fajardo still posted double-double outings, including sterling a 15-point, 17-rebound in a 91-89 win over the Tropang Giga last March 17.
“Hindi kami pwede maging stagnant. Di kami pwedeng magiong kumpyansa. Kailangan namin bawat panalo kasi gusto namin makuha twice to beat advantage,” he said.
Fajardo and the Beermen hope to sustain this intensity after the All-Star break this weekend in Bacolod.
“Dalhin na lang namin sila, tapos dun (Bacolod) kami mag-practice,” said Fajardo in jest.
San Miguel won’t see action until March 31 when it tries to preserve the perfect record against Phoenix at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
