Now part of the Nakhon Ratchasima staff, Jang Bualee couldn't be happier to be back in the Philippines after all her years playing for the likes of San Sebastian, Ateneo, and BaliPure.
It felt like a homecoming of sorts for Jang Bualee as she stepped onto Philippine soil once again, this time not as a player but as an assistant coach and team manager for Nakhon Ratchasima in the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League.
A familiar figure to longtime Filipino volleyball fans, the Thai volleyball veteran suited up for many teams, including the BaliPure Purest Water Defenders during the 2016-2017 PVL season.
She also previously played for the Ateneo Blue Eagles and San Sebastian Lady Stags in the Shakey's V.League, where she was a two-time conference and Finals MVP, as well as a six-time Best Scorer.
Now part of the Nakhon Ratchasima coaching staff, Jang couldn’t hide her excitement about returning to a country where she left lasting memories both on and off the court.
“When they asked me to come join the club for this tournament, I was so excited to visit the Philippines again. It feels like coming back home,” Bualee told reporters. “So many people here are so kind. Even though I haven’t been here for a long time, they still remember me. I’m so happy and thankful for that.”
Beyond the nostalgia, Bualee has also noticed how much Philippine volleyball has evolved since her last visit.
“The growth of volleyball here is amazing,” she said. “Before, there wasn’t this much support. Now it’s so different— the players are stronger, the teams are well-organized, and the sport is very popular. Everything looks perfect now.”
Her return also became an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, including some of her former teammates who were quick to reach out upon learning she was back in town.
“When they knew I was coming, they messaged me right away: ‘Ate, are you here? I’m excited, I want to see you!’” she said with a smile. “They’ve been so supportive, and some will even come to watch the games.”
Bualee even ran into Alyssa Valdez and Cha Cruz at the team hotel, where their reunion brought back fond memories.
“When they saw me, they were so surprised! They asked, ‘Ate, are you playing?’” Bualee shared, laughing. “I told them no, I’m too old for that. At first, my team here asked me to play, but I’ve been working and I don’t have time to train anymore, so I focus on becoming a better coach.”
While her playing days are behind her, Bualee remains proud to contribute to the sport in a new capacity. She is also grateful for the warm welcome from the Filipino volleyball community she once called home.
“I hope the fans come to support our team, or any team, and just enjoy the games,” she said. “I’m very happy to be back.”
