The Petro Gazz Angels fell short in their comeback bid after bowing to Kaohsiung Taipower, 15-25, 16-25, 25-19, 20-25, in the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League at the PhilSports Arena on Monday, April 21.

Just a week since their PVL All-Filipino title victory, the Angels couldn’t overcome Taipower’s fast-paced offense led by Wan-Yun Hsu, who finished with 18 points.

Despite starting a comeback bid after taking the third set, Petro Gazz failed to sustain its momentum against Taipower, who maintained their slim lead throughout the fourth frame.

Leading 9-8, the Taiwanese squad pulled ahead with a 4-1 run capped by Hsu’s cross-court attack. From there, Taipower extended their lead to as many as eight points, 19-11.

Kaohsiung would go on to seal the victory and secure the top spot in Pool B, heading to the quarterfinals with a 2-0 record.

Petro Gazz will look to bounce back and secure its own spot in the quarterfinals, facing Hong Kong’s Hip Hing on Tuesday, April 22.
