Earth Day Run 2025, which features simultaneous races in Manila, Cebu, and Davao, aims to celebrate sustainability by using collapsible cups along the water refilling stations.
Samsung and RUNRIO gear up for the Earth Day Run 2025, set to take place simultaneously in Manila, Cebu, and Davao on April 27.
With this year’s theme, “Run with Purpose,” the nationwide event aims to inspire action for the planet while encouraging a healthier, more active lifestyle. More than 16,000 runners have already signed up across the three legs, and organizers are targeting 17,000 participants in total — a significant jump from last year’s 10,150 total.
“Our theme this year is ‘Run with Purpose.’ It’s a simple yet telling call to action for everyone and a reminder that every step we take is a step to a more sustainable future,” said RUNRIO general manager Andrew Neri, whose team is mounting the event in partnership with SM Supermalls.
Simultaneous push for the planet
Participants from all walks of life — runners, environmental advocates, and tech enthusiasts — will come together for the synchronized runs in three major cities. The Manila leg will take place at SM Mall of Asia Complex, Cebu’s at City di Mare, and Davao’s at Azuela Cove.
The breakdown of expected participants includes at least 12,900 in Manila, 1,300 in Cebu, and 1,570 in Davao, with 5K and 10K slots already sold out and limited availability for the 21K category (now 90% filled).
Rethinking race essentials
Earth Day Run 2025 goes beyond fitness — it’s also about changing habits. This year’s race kit features a collapsible silicone cup, a push by Tzu Chi Philippines aimed at reducing single-use waste. Runners are expected to use these food-grade, reusable cups at hydration stations, eliminating the need for paper cups along the route.
“This isn’t just any run,” emphasized Jane Sy, commissioner of the Tzu Chi Foundation. “It increases the awareness of each person in making a difference for our planet.”
As the gun starts echo across the three cities — starting as early as 3:00 a.m. in Pasay for the 21K — runners won’t just be chasing personal bests. They’ll be running for something bigger: a cleaner, greener future.
Tech meets sustainability
Samsung is also using the platform to highlight how innovation can support both fitness and sustainability. The event will showcase Samsung's latest wearable technology, including the Galaxy Fit3 and Galaxy Watch Ultra, which are designed to improve training while promoting long-term wellness.
“We all share the purpose of fostering a sustainable lifestyle and promoting environmentally conscious choices,” said Nic Rodriguez, Samsung’s Galaxy Ecosystem product marketing manager.
