The Creamline Cool Smashers simply had no answer for Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu VC after falling in straight sets, 16-25, 17-25, 17-25, in the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League at the PhilSports Arena on Monday, April 21.

The Cool Smashers, who were coming off their sweeping victory of Jordan’s Al Naser Club, failed to secure the top spot in Pool A, unable to overcome the tall Kazakhs.

Struggling to secure a strong start in the match, Creamline saw themselves behind 1-6 in the third frame as Zhetysu continued to pounce behind opposite hitter Tatyana Nikitina.

The Cool Smashers tried their best to mount a comeback behind import Erica Staunton, but Kazakhstan squad proved to be too much with Valeriya Yakutina putting on the finishing touches.

Nikitina finished the match with 14 points, while Karyna Denysova added 12 markers in the victory.

No Creamline player finished in double digits, with Staunton leading the way with seven points.

The Cool Smashers, now sporting a 1-1 record, can still advance to the quarterfinals should Zhetysu defeat Al Naser tomorrow, April 22.
