Everyone knows Scottie Thompson is a great player in more ways than one.

But Thompson just jumped to a different stratosphere when he was included in the list of the PBA's 50 Greatest Players, part of the most recent batch added to commemorate the league's 50th anniversary.

“Super blessed na mapabilang dito sa 50 Greatest. Alam natin sobrang daming players na deserving pero isa ako sa napili. Grabe lang yung opportunity kaya sobrang blessed,” said Thompson when reporters flocked him during the league’s gala for the 50 Greatest Players last April 11.

Though still an active player, most fans felt Thompson deserves the spot in the exclusive circle.

After all, Thompson is the prototype Ginebra player who leans on hard work and hustle, which earned him seven PBA championships, a Most Valuable Player nod, two Best Player of the Conference awards, and two Finals MVPs, among others.

But Thompson knows those are nothing compared to this latest honor that puts his name in the same breath as PBA greats like Robert Jaworski, Ramon Fernandez, and Benjie Paras.

“I think so far ito (pinakamataas na award na natanggap). Iba to eh. Iba itong mapabilang dito,” he said.

“Isang karangalan. Hindi ko alam hanggang kelan career sa PBA. Testament to ng hard work ko. I think nag-pay off siya.”

Even with such a milestone, Thompson is not done building his PBA legacy that started when he was drafted by the Gin Kings fifth overall in 2015.

The 31-year-old said he is only motivated to be better.

“I think dagdag motivation din sakin to work more, to do more, do be better sa basketball sa career ko,” he said.
