With less than 10 seconds remaining on the game clock and the win already in the bag for Ginebra, Jamie Malonzo went for a drive from the right elbow but suddenly went down after a couple of steps.

Malonzo appeared to tweak something on his left leg as the buzzer rang and the Gin Kings hammering out a 95-88 win over NorthPort in the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup on Sunday, April 14, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The high-flying forward, who finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists, had to be carried off of the court and out of the playing venue later.

Asked about his ward's condition after the match, Ginebra head coach Tim Cone could not confirm anything, but said they would have to wait for the results of the MRI.

"You never know the severity of injuries until you can see the next day. I think tomorrow we'll find out,” Cone told reporters on the immediate aftermath of Malonzon’s injury.

“He's got a lot of pain and such. Can he walk, whatever. It looks like a calf or an Achilles issue. Not sure, one or the other. I'm not a doctor so I don't want to make a prognosis,” coach Tim added.

"But we'll get him to the doctor tomorrow or the day after, see if we can get the swelling down, if there's any swelling."

With such an unfortunate development, especially with the timing of when the injury took place, Cone can only hope that Malonzo won't be out for an extended period of time.

"At this point, he's gonna be out at least a few days, hopefully it doesn't stretch into weeks or months. We can't afford to lose him," he said.
