Justin Brownlee took off and so did the Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel.

Brownlee added to his legend status in the PBA, firing a new career-high of 51 points to anchor the Gin Kings’ 108-102 victory over the San Miguel Beermen Tuesday at the Araneta Coliseum, the team’s first in the ongoing PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup.

The three-time PBA Best Import exploded for 35 markers in the second half, including 19 alone in the third quarter.

This massive effort helped Brgy. Ginebra atone for its opening-game loss against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters over the weekend.

On top of his 51 points, Brownlee also added 13 rebounds, six steals, and five assists. As Ginebra raised its record to an even 1-1, San Miguel dropped to a 2-1 slate in the Group B standings.

It was a nip-and-tuck affair in the final four minutes, with both teams exchanging one basket after the other until veteran big man Japeth Aguilar went full on clutch for Ginebra.

Aguilar nailed a short stab with 2:21 left to break a 102-all deadlock, before connecting on an easy lay off a Brownlee find to push Brgy. Ginebra’s lead to four points one minute later.

Brownlee then put on the finishing touches with a clutch drive over San Miguel import Jordan Adams with 28.1 ticks left, which not only sealed the win but also his first 50-piece in the PBA.

Earlier, Brgy. Ginebra erased a seven-point San Miguel lead in the fourth, launching a 9-2 run punctuated by a Japeth slam to tie the game at 85-all.

Aguilar finished with 21 points for the Gin Kings, while rookie RJ Abarrientos had a better second game and added 13 points.

Meanwhile, Adams paced the Beermen with 23 points after exploding for 50 points against the Blackwater Elite in their last outing. Eight-time MVP June Mar Fajardo added 17 for San Miguel.
