Kevin Alas’ return will be a big boost for the NLEX side, which dropped its opening game against NorthPort in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup.
Kevin Alas bared that he already got the green light to play for NLEX in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup, but his squad is still taking some precautionary measures before fielding him in again.
After all, this is his third ACL surgery already.
“'Yung surgery ko kasi was December 4 (last year). Parang mag-full year kami. It’s more of protocol lang naman,” Alas said.
Alas sat out in the Road Warriors’ opening game against NorthPort, where they suffered a sound 87-114 beating, on Thursday, Nov. 28.
But the spitfire guard assured he is going to see action sooner than later.
“I’ve been practicing with the team for more than a month na yata. Good to go na naman. Siguro, by next next game, I’ll be playing,” Alas said.

If things go as planned, the former Letran star could suit up on Saturday, Nov. 30, when NLEX takes on Blackwater at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, the same venue where he tore his ACL.

Does that make him feel worried about making his comeback?
Not exactly, said the 33-year-old guard. He is just thrilled to share the court with his teammates for the first time in nearly a year.
“To be honest, sa practice parang OK na, eh. Siguro sa game ko malalaman,” Alas said.
“Excited ako pero I don’t know what to expect sa game kasi third time ko na 'to [to suffer ACL] so I honestly don’t know. But I’m just thankful na makakabalik.”
