Mark Barroca and Calvin Abueva collided, sending both down on the floor in an unfortunate ending to Magnolia's first win after a string of losses.
Magnolia was eager to check a four-game losing skid heading into their PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup match against NLEX on Friday, Dec. 20.
The Hotshots' desperation for a victory was none more evident in the very last play of the game at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig, where Mark Barroca and Calvin Abueva collided going for a loose ball.
The two stayed on the ground for a few minutes, grimacing in pain even after the final buzzer sounded and Magnolia finally ended their woes via a 99-95 overtime win over the Road Warriors.
Magnolia improved to 2-4.
“Ang sakit… Hindi ako makahinga. Sobrang lakas ng impact. Para akong nag-blackout,” said Barroca, who was complaining about a twinge on his right rib area.
For insurance, the seasoned playmaker added he will have it checked on Saturday morning, Dec. 21.
“Magpapa-X-ray ako bukas para sure tayo. Mahirap na. 'Di ko pa masabi ngayon kasi 'yung adrenaline, buhay pa,” he said.

The win was a shot in the arm for the beleaguered team struggling to get things going after an opening day victory against Converge.
Barroca said it could prep the Hotshots up for their Christmas Day showdown against rival Ginebra at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
“Another test ulit,” he said.
“Sabi nga namin, pahinga muna bukas. Reset mind namin tapos move forward kami. 'Di kami puwedeng matalo.”
