The TNT Tropang Giga proved to be too much for the Meralco Bolts in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup.
The TNT Tropang Giga reopened their PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup on a solid note after torching the Meralco Bolts, 101-99, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday, January 7.
Fresh off their 19-day break, the Tropang Giga distanced themselves early on from the Bolts, who were coming off their win against Eastern on Sunday.
Despite Meralco’s fightback in the fourth quarter, which saw the Bolts take the lead at 94-92 after Bong Quinto’s layup, TNT relied on import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson to secure the Tropang Giga's third win in a row.
Tied at 99-all, Hollis-Jefferson was fouled at the backcourt by Cliff Hodge as he came up big with his free throws, which ultimately sealed the win.
TNT moves to 3-2 for seventh in the standings, while Meralco remains at the sixth spot with a 4-3 record.
