Iskati visits the Land of the Rising Sun with his wife Jinky.
Since Japan relaxed their COVID-19 restrictions on tourists last November, the country’s number of visitors climbed to more than a million the following month, according to Japan’s Tourism Agency. This January, those tourists include newly crowned Commissioner’s Cup champion Scottie Thompson of the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.
A few days after his team’s monumental Game 7 victory over the Bay Area Dragons, the second conference’s Best Player awardee posted on Instagram a picture of a bustling metro, filled with majestic high-rise buildings and vehicles driven on the left side of the road. The reigning PBA MVP also included in his post an emoji of the Japanese flag — maybe to let his followers know exactly where he is. What a thoughtful guy Scottie is.
So, what is the Ginebra superstar doing in Japan? Is he there to test out the market and see if anyone from the B.League is interested? For sure any team from the Japanese league would love to sign a unique talent like Thompson. But, it seems like the do-it-all guard did not travel 2,000 miles for business. So, don’t worry Ginebra nation!
The 4-time PBA All-Star is actually with his wife Jinky Serrano for vacation. Here’s another IG story where the couple looked very excited for their trip to Tokyo.
After a grueling conference and a tiring championship series against the guest team from Hong Kong, Thompson definitely deserved to relax. And what better way to recuperate than spending quality time with a loved one in a beautiful location like Japan.
Scottie and the rest of Barangay Ginebra will return to action for the Governors’ Cup on February 5 as they take on the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
