Philippines hardly broke a sweat in its 25-14, 25-12, 25-9 demolition of Macau to open its AVC Challenge Cup campaign on Monday.

Bannered by the core of Akari Chargers, the national team banked on Eli Soyud in the homestretch where she sealed the breezy win with a quick attack that went off the hands of her Chinese counterpart.

It was actually a sloppy start to the third frame for the Filipina spikers.

They faced a 3-4 deficit before staging a furious 14-2 run that pretty much sealed the victory in Gresik, East Java Indonesia.

In the opening set, the Philippines looked sharp from get-go. But it was defense that allowed them to own the set, with Djanel Cheng and Shaya Adorador blocking Macau on back-to-back occasions to end the frame.

That same effort was shown in the ensuing set, where the Filipino volleybelles dominated with Aiza Maizo-Pontillas hitting a crosscourt to make the count 14-7.

Team Philippines will next face the host team in Group B on Tuesday, 8 p.m. Manila time.
