Team Philippines started off its AVC Challenge Cup campaign on a good note, defeating Macau in straight sets, 25-14, 25-12, 25-9, on Monday.

Leading the attack for the Filipinos was team captain Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Faith Nisperos, who scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Nisperos, an incoming rookie in the PVL, proved to be a steady source of offense for the national team, which should only make fans of the Akari Chargers excited.

For the former Ateneo Blue Eagle, she has been intentional in making an impact on the volleyball floor—and she has a big stage to do just that.

“I wish to unleash the Faith Nisperos of Season 84. Doon ko kasi naramdaman 'yung eagerness to go back to playing, to go back to competition,” she said in an article posted on the Akari Sports website on Tuesday.

UAAP Season 85, which turned out to be Nisperos’ final year in Ateneo, was a difficult campaign for the Blue Eagles as they missed the Final Four for the first time in over a decade.

Just a year earlier, however, the 5-foot-11 spiker was making headlines left and right as she finished with the 2nd Best Outside Spiker award. She was also in the top five of attacks and serves in that year when the UAAP returned to action after being set back by the COVID-19 pandemic.

And the national squad returnee is hungry to make a difference as they represent the Philippines over there in Indonesia.

“Right now, since I’m back with the national team, andun 'yung same determination and perseverance of Season 84 Faith Nisperos.”

Nisperos and the rest of the nationals will next face the host team on Tuesday, 8 p.m. Manila time.
