The Chery Tiggo Crossovers stopped the surging Petro Gazz Angels with a five-set escape act for their fourth win in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Coming off a streak-busting victory over Creamline less than a week ago, Chery Tiggo halted another winning run Thursday night, March 21.
The Crossovers snapped the three-game surge of the Petro Gazz Angels after pulling off a thrilling five-set escape act, 25-21, 18-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-13, in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Chery Tiggo leaned on a balanced offensive thrust to weather the all-around storm of Brooke Van Sickle for an improved 4-2 slate at fifth.
The Angels, earlier in a five-way logjam at first prior to today's double-header, slipped to a similar record.
Momentum swung wildly in the decisive fifth set, as both teams refused to give way.
The Angels created crucial separation at 11-9, but the troika of Cza Carandang, Eya Laure and Mylene Paat pushed the Crossovers ahead, 12-11.
Jonah Sabete and Paat then traded blows before the former hammered another one down to forge a 13-all deadlock.
Not to be denied, Paat came through once again with a hit that went off the block to push Chery Tiggo at match point.
Sabete tried to respond but her attack sailed wide, sealing the fate of Petro Gazz.
Eya Laure, who celebrated her 25th birthday, spearheaded the Crossovers with an all-around effort of 15 points, 12 digs and eight excellent receptions.
Ara Galang made her presence felt as well with 12 markers in three sets of action, while Paat and EJ Laure chipped in 10 points apiece.
Alina Bicar generated the high-octane engine of Chery Tiggo with 19 excellent sets that went with two markers.
The Angels saw themselves on the losing end despite the brilliance of Van Sickle, who had a league-high 27 points, 20 digs and 12 receptions.
Sabete had an offensive outburst of 22 markers that also went down the drain.
Chery Tiggo aims to sustain its form when it takes on Nxled, while Petro Gazz seeks to display its winning character anew when it faces Capital1 on March 26, Tuesday, at PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
