Roma Mae Doromal is set to open a new chapter in her budding career, as the libero prepares to take her act to the Premier Volleyball League.

With the inaugural 2024 PVL draft approaching, Doromal is feeling a mix of emotions.

The prospect of stepping into the professional circuit is daunting and filled with uncertainties.

However, Doromal is taking a step forward with unyielding determination.

“Actually nakakatakot kasi talaga eh, na parang marami emotions kang mafi-feel. Pero at the same time, kailangan lang na kahit takot ka, lumaban ka pa rin,” she said.

Doromal remained tight-lipped about the clubs which have shown interest in her talents. However, she expressed confidence that whichever team secures her services will benefit from what she has to offer.

The former Ateneo libero-captain is eager to bring her defensive prowess and leadership to the professional scene.

“Siguro mao-offer ko talaga ‘yung skills na pinag-build ko talaga throughout my college years and also ‘yung leadership skills ko,” Doromal shared.

“Kahit rookie pa ako, gusto kong mag-lead sa team kung saan man ako mapupunta. ‘Yun ‘yung gusto kong i-add.”

Doromal also acknowledges that she has ample room for growth and is very open to receiving insights and feedback on how she can continue to improve.

“Siguro ‘yung mga decision making ko, ‘yun ‘yung kailangan ko pa i-improve, also ‘yung digging skills and siyempre lahat naman ‘yun,” she said.

“Very open talaga ako with kung sino man ‘yung team na sasalihan ko, very open ako with a lot of inputs, so exciting.”

Doromal, much like any other rookie, wants to make her presence felt right from the start, and she's determined to give it her all to help her team contend for and win a title.

Throughout her years at Ateneo, a championship proved elusive, and she is eager to end that drought once she makes it to the professional level.

“Of course, ‘yun talaga ‘yung pinanghahawakan ko rin this time hindi pa ako nakaka-championship. Hopefully talaga sa PVL magawaan ko siya ng paraan and yun, magkaroon ng championship,” Doromal bared.

Doromal expressed her gratitude to Ateneo head coach Sergio Veloso for helping her prepare for one of the most defining phases of her life as an athlete.

“Hinelp kasi ako ni Coach Sergo to become a leader talaga. So ‘yun talaga ‘yung for sure na madadala ko. And ‘yung mga skills din na tinuro niya in terms sa technicalities, ‘yun talaga ‘yung mahe-help ko,” she said.

Doromal is also grateful for the support and encouragement from her sister, Roma Joy Doromal, who plays for Galeries Tower.

“Sabi niya lang sakin na i-enjoy ko lang ‘yung journey,” she shared.

“Sinabi niya naman na mag enjoy lang ako and then bahala na kung anong mangyari give ko lang din best ko.”

The PVL Draft will take place on July 8.
