A new chapter has begun for the Cignal HD Spikers with Dawn Catindig at the helm.

Despite the departures of Ces Molina and Riri Meneses, the HD Spikers reopened their 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino campaign with a straight-sets win over the Galeries Tower Highrisers, 25-17, 25-20, 25-19, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday, January 21.

Catindig showed off her excellent floor defense in the win with 19 excellent digs and four excellent receptions.

The 28-year-old libero admitted that the sudden exit of Molina and Meneses caught the team by surprise. But rather than dwelling on it, Catindig and the rest of her Cignal teammates soldiered on and focused on the conference restart.

“Mixed feelings siyempre kasi medyo mabilisan siya na nalaman namin na wala na sina ate Ces [and Riri]. It was either we’re gonna dwell on it or move on agad kasi hindi naman kami hihintayin ng games, and in-accept agad namin,” Catindig told One Sports.

Catindig is no stranger to leading her teams, having also been named team captain for Alas Pilipinas. But with the HD Spikers, the superstar libero is sharing the leadership role with her teammates.

“Ako naman kasi co-captain ako before so may konting experience na rin. Hindi naman ako nahirapan kasi we decided on a shared leadership so parang captain in name lang ako pero everyone is leading themselves,” Catindig explained.

All eyes will be on Cignal if the team can continue its strong start despite fielding only 12 players against the Highrisers. But despite all the chatter about the team, Catindig is confident of the HD Spikers’ capabilities.

“With everything that happened last year and this year, hindi naman kasi nakikita ng fans and outsiders ‘yung mga nangyayari sa loob,” said Catindig. “Hindi kami nagpapa-affect sa rumors and everything else. Basta alam namin ‘yung nangyayri sa team and ‘yung tiwala namin sa isa’t isa.”

Cignal will go for its second-straight win against the PLDT High Speed Hitters next Tuesday, January 28 at the PhilSports Arena.
