Mich Morente was still gasping for air after the PLDT High Speed Hitters' Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference match versus the Petro Gazz Angels went the distance on Thursday night.

But she was happy nonetheless as the High Speed Hitters hacked out a hard-earned 21-25, 31-29, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13 win over the Angels at the Filoil Ecooil Center in San Juan.

Morente finished with 21 points, none bigger than the game-sealing spike that gave the High Speed Hitters their third straight win in four games.

Despite the splendid performance, Morente deflected credit to her teammates.

“I’m very thankful kela Ate Rhea [Dimaculangan], sa mga teammates namin kasi nagtiwala sa 'kin na sa 'kin ibigay yung set,” she said. “Very thankful ako sa lahat kasi hindi ko magagawa ‘to kung wala teammates ko.”

In the early goings of the match, Morente was struggling to get the ball through the Angels’ defenders. But she soldiered on and eventually found a way to make her presence felt offensively.

“To be honest, sa first part ng game na-frustrate ako... Nagre-reset mindset ko na ‘Hindi, kaya ko ‘to, kaya ko i-recover sarili ko.' Pero hindi ko magagawa yun without my teammates, especially yung last set kay Kath (Arado). It means a lot to me na nagtiwala sya sa 'kin na patayin ko yung bola,” she said.

“So, it really is a teamwork. Sabi nga namin ni coach [Rald Ricafort], tiyaga, sipag, at gawa. Yun ang kailangan namin sa loob ng court para manalo.”

Make that three straight wins for the High Speed Hitters, who appear to have hit the jackpot with Morente.
