The Far Eastern University Tamaraws kicked off their second round campaign on a good note as they dominated the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons for a 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 straight-sets victory on Saturday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Setter Benny Martinez was in control for the most of the match as he finished with 17 excellent sets alongside 3 points built on 2 attacks and 1 service ace.

"Siyempre hindi namin pwedeng i-underestimate 'yung UP. Ang lakas nila. Nakita naman natin na ready talaga sila," said coach Rey Diaz during the post-game press conference. "Na-check talaga 'yung team. I think magandang simula, pero kailangang mas tumibay pa kami. Kailangang mas mag-focus pa kami, kailangan maging mas committed pa kami."

The wins put the Tamaraws at 6-2, good for third in the standings as they look to continue their hot streak when they face the De La Salle University Green Spikers on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Meanwhile, the National University Bulldogs remain undefeated in Season 85 after another sweep of the Green Spikers, winning 25-20, 25-20, 25-16.

Joshua Retamar led the way for the Bulldogs with 19 excellent sets that produced 45 scoring attacks. The NU captain also had 3 digs and 5 points.

“Siguro dahil sa pinakita namin last game against (La Salle), siguro nag-carry over lang ‘yung performance namin,” said coach Dante Alinsunurin during the post-game press conference. “Mas nabasa namin ‘yung mga ginagawa nila sa loob ng court kaya mas nakuha namin ‘yung dapat naming gawin sa loob.”

NU moved to 8-0 in the standings, while La Salle dropped to 4-4.

Up next for the Bulldogs will be the slumping Fighting Maroons next Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
