The UP Fighting Maroons were still fresh from their Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup conquest, yet they are already back in training on Saturday.

Gracing their weekend practice was UP great Carl Tamayo.

Tamayo left the Maroons for greener pastures in Japan, where he played for eventual champions Ryukyu Golden Kings in the B.League. His departure left a gaping hole in UP’s frontline.

But guys like Seven Gagate is filling that role well so far for the Fighting Maroons, evident in the recent preseason tourney where UP trumped early UAAP favorites La Salle Green Archers in the best-of-three finals.

In this Instagram story by strength and conditioning coach Chappy Callanta, the two were seen having what looked like a passing-on-the-knowledge moment.

“@carltamayo10 imparting knowledge @gagte7,” the caption read.

After seeing the story, UP fans probably couldn’t help but think about what these two could achieve together in a UP jersey.

They wouldn’t know now, for sure. But they can bank on Gagate as well as other new recruits in Luis Pablo and Francis Lopez to help lead the Maroons to greater heights next UAAP season.
