Athletes are no robots. Artificial intelligence has nothing to do with how they train and perform under the bright lights. Athletes got heart. They are motivated and inspired by their dreams and the people they want to build their dreams with.
What got us sounding like an emo is NU Bulldogs star Kean Baclaan’s Instagram post on Tuesday, around 12 a.m.
It was a simple birthday greeting for her girlfriend, Micah Calique Delfin.
“Happy birthday, mahal,” the 20-year old point guard wrote over a series of photos of his and Micah’s sweet moments together.
Like a picture-perfect give-and-go, Kean’s lady love hit his man back with an equally loving message.
“I love you, thank you for everything! Kaya natin ‘to,” she replied.
A silly exchange between the two followed.
“Kilig to the bones,” quipped Baclaan.
“Kafal,” Micah retorted.
That dialogue right there is a sign of a healthy and flourishing relationship, don’t you think? It's also probably one big reason Baclaan is playing superbly in the UAAP Season 86 men's basketball tournament. And, well, if you need further proof, just check out Kean’s stellar play for the Bulldogs so far.
Coming out of the first round, the sophomore sensation was sixth in the MVP race, having garnered 64.7 statistical points. Currently, the Bulldogs are virtually tied for first place alongside the UP Fighting Maroons with an 8-2 slate, and Kean has a lot to do with it. Clearly, the boy is inspired.
Tomorrow, Thursday, expect a highly motivated Kean to lead his squad against the FEU Tamaraws as the elimination round approaches the home stretch. Similarly, expect that Micah will be supporting her man fully.
Kaya nila 'yan.
