As the nation celebrated its centennial of independence from Spanish rule, the year 1998 also saw the rise of a new dynasty in the UAAP.

Enter the De La Salle Green Archers.

Bridesmaid to UST Growling Tigers for many years prior, La Salle finally broke the curse and captured the first of four straight championships under the legendary head coach Franz Pumaren.

After 25 years, the said team bannered by elite players like Renren Ritualo and Don Allado will reunite for a ring ceremony called Animo Champions on Monday.

Other La Salle champion teams from 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2016 will also receive their long-overdue rings at the said event which is set at 6 p.m. at the Henry Sy, Sr. Hall Grounds on campus. The 2007 and 2013 Green Archers reportedly got theirs already.

But this reunion of sorts is not just for the La Salle of old. These former players hope to inspire the new ones who have a legitimate chance to capture a championship after setting up a UAAP Season 86 finals clash against the UP Fighting Maroons.

This current crop of Green Archers went on a nine-game winning spree, including the 97-73 win over the NU Bulldogs in the Final Four on Saturday.

It remains to be seen whether Kevin Quiambao and company will join this elite group of La Salle champion players. But for now, Ritualo, Allado, Dino Aldeguer, Francis Zamora, Willie Wilson, Alvin Castro, Mon Jose, Mike Cortez, Jerong Teng, and Jason Perkins, to name a few, will bask in the glory of their previous conquests.

Catch the event live on Ones Sports+, Pilipinas Live app, and the DLSU Sports Facebook page.
