"I'm proud of everything I've done."
This Wendy chooses to continue growth.
Champion and MVP setter Wendy Semana announced her retirement as a player on Friday, prompting fans to recall their best memories of her playing years.
"I started playing volleyball 26 years ago. My path has not been an easy one; it has involved many sacrifices, hard effort, ups and downs," Semana started her post.
She is best known for leading the FEU Lady Tamaraws to the championship during UAAP Season 70.
"Being recognized as the UAAP 70th Season MVP for both indoor and beach volleyball is a feat that I have attained through much sacrifice and hard work."
After her FEU stint, Semana has played for multiple teams and last wore the PLDT High Speed Hitters jersey during the 2023 PVL First All-Filipino Conference.
"In fact, I learned more from other accolades and commendations from other teams I played on than just how to be a team player. I'm proud of everything I've done, experienced, and contributed to the volleyball community. I'm aware that it's time to advance to the next phase," she added.
"Wendy Anne Semana, wearing jersey number seven, is currently signing off."
Heather Guino-o, a former PLDT player herself, expressed well-wishes for Semana.
"Idol!!!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 Miss you ate 🤗," she said.
Fans expressed their gratitude and memories of Semana in her Facebook post.
"My ultimate idol! Ikaw nag-inspire sa'kin para maging setter mula ng napanood kita noong Season 70. A true legend 🏆🏐," Wecky Cano commented.
"Before I admired Jem (Ferrer) and Jia (de Guzman), I was really in awe of your skills as a setter. All the best!" another fan added.
"Idol na idol kita mula pa noon, kaya nung nakapag-asawa ako ng isang soldier-athlete at nakikita kita sa AFP Olympics, kinikilig ako kasi nakikita na kita sa personal. Dati college days, lagi lang sa TV. Hehe. Good luck on your future endeavors. God bless you always po 💜💖🤗," another fan chimed in.
"You’ve done well, legend! Wendy Semana will forever be remembered as one of the greats in the history of the UAAP and Philippine volleyball," the One FEU fanpage added.
Maybe she can be a coach next?
