In front of a massive crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, UST's own super rookie Angge Poyos did not fail to deliver for the Golden Tigresses against the NU Lady Bulldogs.

Poyos poured 16 points, built on 13 attacks, to lead UST’s stunning straight-sets sweep over the Lady Bulldogs, 25-19, 25-23, 25-22.

But even with her impressive rookie debut in the UAAP, the 5-foot-8 outside hitter was still unsatisfied with her performance, eager to prove herself more in the coming games.

“First UAAP game nandun pa din ‘yung pressure, nangangapa,” Poyos said during the post-game press conference.

“For me, hindi ako satisfied sa nilaro ko ngayon and I know naman sa sarili ko na makakabawi ako and makaka-adjust ako sa mga susunod pang mga games,” she added.

Coming into UAAP Season 86, questions arose about whether or not UST could fill in the void left by Eya Laure and other seniors such as Milena Alessandrini and Imee Hernandez.

It’s clear now that despite their young roster, the Golden Tigresses have enough pieces to compete against the top teams in the league.

“Nawala si ate Eya [Laure] pero mas madami naman kaming pumalit. Kahit ‘yung mga height namin mga maliliit pero ‘yung skills nandun. Kumbaga solid [kasi] ‘yung kay ate Eya napalitan ng mas madami pang ate Eya,” said Poyos.

The 20-year-old Poyos will look to surpass her debut performance as UST faces the Casiey Dongallo-led UE Lady Red Warriors, who also started the season 1-0.
