There’s an old saying that goes ‘Too many cooks spoil the broth,’ but for a stacked UP Fighting Maroons squad, the more stars that they have, the better it’s been.

Just like recent years, the Fighting Maroons headed into UAAP Season 87 flanked with multiple blue chip recruits and transferees.

After testing their mettle in a heated rivalry game with the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the season curtain raiser on Saturday night, nothing much has changed.

Among the prominent names that headed to Diliman leading up to the new season was Filipino-American big man Quentin Millora-Brown.

A one-and-done acquisition from the US, Millora-Brown has been touted as one of the key cogs for the Maroons’ campaign in UAAP Season 87, where the Fighting Maroons hope to regain the title after two unsuccessful Finals trips.

Finishing with an impressive stat line of seven points, 17 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks against Ateneo, Millora-Brown certainly proved vital, but also said that he is focused on giving what the team needs day in and day out in his only UAAP stint.

“I think that we understand that we have a really deep team, you know, we have a lot of young guys who are developing, as well as older guys who have good skill sets.” said Millora-Brown.

“So I think that it’s just a matter of continuing to work with each other and learn how to play with each other even better as we get into the season,” he added.

The Fil-Am center added that as the games go along, he and the rest of the Fighting Maroons can figure out what aspect of their game best fits into UP head coach Goldwin Monteverde’s system and how they can connive to lead UP back to the peak.

“I think that as we go along, we’ll find out what each one of us is best at with each other and we’ll be able to find what we need to win this year,” he said.

“It’s not gonna be the same as the previous year. Just as next year is not gonna be the same as this year. So it’s just about finding what we have and using what we can.” Millora-Brown added.

Trust also proved pivotal for ‘QMB’ as he believes the stats and points can come from anyone at any given time during the season.

More than focusing on what he can do individually, it’s all about leading the team to victory.

“For me, the focus was just on playing as a team. You know, the rebounds and points come. It can be my night one night, JD (Cagulangan)’s, it could be Francis (Lopez)’, it could be Dikachi (Ududo)’s, anyone’s night,” Millora-Brown said.

“We have a really talented team so, for me, I just focus on winning. Whatever it takes to win, whatever the team asks of me on each night.” he added.

Millora-Brown and the rest of the Maroons hope to push for another team win when they face the UE Red Warriors next on Saturday, September 14, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
