De La Salle University is back on track after powering past Far Eastern University, 68-62, in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao on Wednesday, September 25.

The Green Archers bounced back from their early defeat against the UE Red Warriors last Sunday, keeping the young Tamaraws squad winless in five games.

Trailing the entire first half, FEU outscored La Salle 22-13 in the third frame to cut the lead to just a single point, before Miguel Ona’s first basket in the fourth quarter gave the Tamaraws the lead 52-51.

After exchanging baskets in the final frame, Earl Abam and Henry Agunanne pushed DLSU ahead 61-56 with 4:12 left in the game.

Mo Konateh cut the lead to just three at 60-63. But reigning Kevin Quiambao found a cutting Mike Phillips for an easy floater to restore their lead to five once more.

Phillips would make two free throws with just over 1:30 left in the game for a seven-point lead, which La Salle would hold on to seal their fifth win in Season 87.

Quiambao flirted with a triple-double of 12 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists, while Phillips finished with a double-double of 13 markers and 14 boards.

Janrey Pasaol paced the still-winless FEU with 13 points followed by Konateh with 12 points and 24 rebounds.
