The DLSU Lady Spikers score their first winning streak of the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament.
Angel Canino was everywhere for the DLSU Lady Spikers as she notched a near triple-double in La Salle’s four-set win over the UE Lady Warriors, 25-12, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, in UAAP Season 87 action at the Mall of Asia Arena Saturday.
Building themselves a win-streak, Canino chipped in across all departments with 20 points, 10 excellent digs, and nine excellent receptions.
Save for a hiccup in the second set, where errors plagued the Lady Spikers to help UE tie the match at 1-1, La Salle was hardly perturbed at the Lady Warriors’ challenge. In the closeout in set 4, La Salle was comfortably ahead, 16-10, at the second technical timeout.
Despite UE making a run to get within three, 17-14, La Salle scored three straight points to create space anew, punctuated by an ace from Amie Provido.
Alleiah Malaluan backstopped Canino’s performance with 12 points. Player of the Game Jyne Soreño also added 12 markers of her own — nine of which came in the pivotal third set.
La Salle thus improves to 3-2, rising above .500 for the first time this year.
Meanwhile, Van Bangayan topped the scoring column for the still winless Lady Warriors with 17 points and 11 excellent digs.
UE have yet to take a victory in six games so far this season.
