Ace rookie Shaina Nitura and the Adamson Lady Falcons avenge their first round loss against UP, ending UAAP Season 87 with a victory.
Shaina Nitura and the Adamson Lady falcons ended their season on a high as they drubbed the sluggish UP Fighting Maroons in straight sets, 25-13, 25-21, 25-18, in their last game of UAAP Season 87 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.
After losing in five sets in their first round encounter, Adamson was swift and dominant this time around as the Fighting Maroons fell flat, especially in the opening set.
Save for a spirited comeback try in set 2, where UP fought back from a 4-15 deficit, the Lady Falcons were in cruise control.
Late in the set, UP was within two, 21-23, after an error by Adamson, but Nitura scored on back-to-back rallies to clinch the dominant 2-0 lead.
Despite things being more tightly contested in set 3, Adamson was able to rely on the steady scoring of Nitura — and then some.
Unlike their first round meeting where Nitura unleashed a record breaking 38-point performance and it wasn’t enough for the victory, there was much more offense to go around for Adamson.
Though Nitura was still the top scorer for the Lady Falcons with 22 markers, two other players finished in double-digit scoring with Frances Mordi and Mayang Nuique chipping in 11 and 13 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, UP leaned on the offense of Kianne Olango with seven points in the losing effort.
Both teams are out of contention for the Final Four and end the season at 6-8.
