There’s been no one quite like Shaina Nitura.

Rightfully earning the title “super rookie” right from her debut game, where she shattered the UAAP rookie scoring record with 33 points in a win over Ateneo, Nitura has proven time and time again that she is the next big thing.

Not just talking about being the biggest star in Adamson, but Nitura could be in play as being the new standard for UAAP women’s volleyball.

After scoring 22 points in a three-set victory over the UP Fighting Maroons on Sunday, Nitura finished the season with a whopping 371 points  — which is the largest total in UAAP volleyball, whether in men’s or women’s.

Shaina actually broke the record last game against La Salle, scoring 35 points to up her total to then 349 points. That was more than enough to take the record from UST’s Mark Alfafara, who scored 344 points back in UAAP Season 76.

But just as she’s been all season, Nitura was hardly blinded by all the achievements she achieved.

Rather, she simply wanted to give the team their laurels for ending the season on a high, finishing the year with an 6-8 record and sitting in 5th place.

“Siguro ang pinaka-highlight ko po ngayon is yung panalo namin. Kasi talagang teamwork yung nangyari kanina… Pag-fall down ng isa, umaakyat yung isa,” Nitura said.

“This is the beginning for another season,” she added.

Among the biggest performances for Nitura were her six 30-point games for Adamson — including a record-breaking 38-point outing against the UP Fighting Maroons, which set an all-time single-scoring record in UAAP women’s volleyball.

Other than that, her six games with 30+ points in one season is also a UAAP record.

But perhaps more importantly for Nitura, who still has a long future ahead of her with the Lady Falcons, the six games they won this year prove to be equally as meaningful.

After some frustrating losses in the first round, a number of her high-scoring performances finally turned into victories, including back-to-back wins over Final Four teams NU and FEU.

In a shocking win over NU earlier this month, Nitura had 32 points built off of 30 attacks and two blocks. She also had 10 excellent digs and six excellent receptions.

Then against FEU, she finished with 37 markers and a triple-double, with 13 excellent digs and 12 excellent receptions.

But, at the end of the day, Nitura is simply there to hopefully tow her Lady Falcons to the win.

With reinforcements coming next year and a fresh start, Nitura will hope to write another record-breaking season.
