Great things are expected from the two young big men.
FIBA's official team profile for Team Pilipinas summed up perfectly the current situation of Gilas.
Jordan Clarkson will undoubtedly lead this latest iteration of the national team, but one man can't carry the whole load.
"[Coach Chot] Reyes needs to figure out how he can give Clarkson scoring support," the piece said.
The optimism is that the pieces surrounding the Utah Jazz guard will fit perfectly given the small amount of preparation they have together.
Young twin towers AJ Edu and Kai Sotto were mentioned as potential vital pieces.
"AJ Edu is another player who could make an impact with his physical nature."
Edu turned heads during Gilas' pocket tournament stint in China.
As for Sotto, he's already played with Clarkson. But the 7-foot3 center will also need to catch up after missing most of the national team's training camp.
"Another concern has to be about the late arrival of Clarkson, and Sotto's back problem that prevented him from joining the preparations until August 15."
The team profile pointed out that it would be "catastrophic" if Clarkson will not get any support from the rest of Gilas.
The entire nation and the basketball world will find out soon with literally one week to go before the FIBA World Cup.
