Don’t sleep on this Jordanian team.
Team Jordan has also unveiled their final pool for the sixth window of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. Looking at their 21-man selection, and their performance against Gilas Pilipinas last November, we have a pretty good idea which Jordanian hoopers will be chosen to avenge their loss come February 27 at the Philippine Arena.
With that, here are four names from this Middle Eastern squad that Gilas should take note of.
Dar Tucker
Jordan’s top gunner is obviously someone who requires diligent planning from Gilas coach Chot Reyes. Averaging a team-best 20.3 points, and finishing with 23 markers in Jordan’s 66-74 loss to the Philippines, the U.S. born scorer will be out to get buckets once again in the rematch. Finding a way to slow him down will be huge for the hosts.
Ahmad Al Dwairi
Jordan’s 6-foot-11 center is going to be a problem. In his last meeting with Gilas, Al Dwairi posted 18 points, 16 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. With Kai Sotto, and Japeth Aguilar out, the towering Jordanian might even have a bigger game on the 27th. A highly motivated June Mar Fajardo could be the answer to prevent an Al Dwairi takeover.
Freddy Ibrahim
Jordan’s floor general has been tallying 9.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 6.7 assists in the qualifiers. He’s been doing a stellar job running their sets. But during his encounter with Scottie Thompson, Ibrahim ended up with 6 points, 6 assists, and 4 turnovers. Maybe, disrupting his rhythm means disrupting his entire team’s as well.
Sami Bzai
Jordanian shooter Sami Bzai is just hitting 6.4 points per game. Against Team Philippines threes month ago, he had 9 buckets. In his latest outing, he exploded for 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from deep. The point is, if left unattended, Bzai can inflict damage. The home team can’t afford to be blindsided by this guy.
In a few days, Jordan will be seeking for revenge, and Gilas will do everything they can to defend their turf. That right there is a recipe for a must-see basketball game.
