Nocum made the PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals series against the Converge FiberXers his coming out party, to leading the Elasto Painters back to the semifinals with a 2-1 win.
In the three hard-fought games, the 25-year-old averaged 22.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3 assists, paving the way for well-deserved PBA Press Corps-Pilipinas Live Player of the Week honors for the period of Feb. 5-9.
Nocum logged 28 points, including 16 in the fourth frame, in a crucial 114-104 Game 2 win over the FiberXers, keeping ROS alive to fight another day. It was a huge scoring improvement from his 14-point outing in a 130-118 defeat in the series opener.
The former Mapua Cardinal became the top local scorer anew behind a marvelous 25-point outing that sealed the Elasto Painters' Final Four entry in the series-clinching Game 3.
Even head coach Yen Guiao praised his sophomore guard, calling him a ‘unique’ talent after a string of breakout performances.
Back for a third straight semifinal appearance, Nocum and co. brace for a tougher test ahead in facing the mighty TNT Tropang Giga in a best-of-seven series which begins Wednesday, February 26.
