Sarina Bolden and the rest of the Filipinas need this.
The Philippine Women’s National Football Team qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup off a Sarina Bolden goal in the quarterfinals of the 2022 AFC Asian Women’s Cup against Chinese Taipei. And just recently, the Filipinas ace midfielder was named Miss Football by the Philippine Sportswriters’ Association (PSA).
The award was given to the 26-year-old footballer practically a year after she nailed the historic winning penalty in India. Bolden is one of the most talented members of the PWNFT. But upon receiving the PSA accolade, one could notice the other admirable traits she possesses as an athlete.
She wasn’t present at the Awards Ceremony, but she made a recording of her thank you speech, wherein she was quite selfless.
“It’s a huge honor. I’m super grateful. I wouldn’t be here winning this award if it wasn’t for my teammates, my coaches, staff, management, the PFF, everyone who’s been involved from the beginning,” Bolden mentioned.
Sarina is an in-demand talent in the women’s game. She’s been signed by several pro football clubs in various parts of the world such as the San Francisco Nighthawks of the Women’s Premier Soccer League in the US, Elfen Saitama of Japan’s WE League, and most recently, the Western Sydney Wanderers.
Last month, Bolden scored her first goal in the A-League Women as the Wanderers defeated her Filipinas teammate Jaclyn Sawicki’s Western United, 2-1.
At the end of the video, the football star asked for her countrymen’s support when the Filipinas begin their momentous campaign in New Zealand.
“I just ask for people to keep supporting us, being there for us. Especially, with a big tournament that’s coming up, the FIFA Women’s World Cup. That’ll be in New Zealand for us this July. So, please support us. Be there, social media, in person, whatever you can, everything counts.”
