Eumir Marcial moves on from Asian Games heartbreak, looks forward to getting gold in 2024 Paris Olympics

Eumir Marcial is moving forward after falling short of his quest for a gold medal in the Asian Games.

While many believe that the decision that favored Tuohetarbieke Tanglatihan of China was a "cooking show,” Marcial has reiterated in an interview with Noli Eala that he respects the judges' decision on the fight.

“Ang dami nagsasabi na ako po 'yung dapat nanalo, niluto 'yung laban, pero tulad ng sinabi ko sa unang interview sa akin, nire-respeto ko po 'yung desisyon ng judges,” Marcial told Eala in Radyo5's Power and Play on Saturday.

“Kailangan natin tanggapin at pagsikapan sa susunod na tournament, sa susunod na laban na lalo pang pagbubutihin,” he added.

Adding to the learnings he had about that ill-fated gold medal bout, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist pointed out the importance of not letting his next bouts be decided by the judges.

“'Kailangan hindi na ipa-desisyon sa judges, kumbaga dapat i-knockout na,” said Marcial.

Marcial, who moved from 75 kg to 80 kg for this edition of the continental meet, is now setting his eyes on the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In fact, the 27-year-old boxer is even looking forward to seeing his Chinese rival once more.

“Alam ko, magkikita pa kami sa Olympics. Time niya ngayon, siya yung nanalo ngayon. Marami akong oras para maghanda at doon ko kukunin 'yung gold sa Paris,” said Marcial confidently.

With a determined Marcial ready to go at war come the 2024 Paris Olympics and with more than enough time to adjust to his new weight class, boxing will surely be a must-watch event for Filipinos next year.
