His agent shed light on the shocking news.
After one game, Robert Bolick has mutually parted ways with Japan B.League Division 2 team Fukushima Firebonds, the team announced on Thursday.
Bolick, who finished with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists in the 95-90 loss to the Passlab Yamagata Wyverns, asked for the release.
Bolick’s agent Marvin Espiritu told One Sports that the 27-year-old playmaker made the tough decision to ensure the safe pregnancy of his wife Cassandra, who is living with the Filipino baller in Japan.
“Reason talaga is for his wife. Kasi buntis asawa niya,” Espiritu said of Bolick, whose wife is 10 weeks pregnant.
Espiritu said the home-and-away format of the B.League proved to be difficult for the couple, prompting Bolick to cut short his B.League career and “sacrifice his big contract.”
“‘Yung home-and-away format is very stressful sa kanila, dahil towards the course of the season may mga times na puwede mawala ng at least one week si Bolick. E walang kasama asawa niya sa bahay,” the amiable agent said.
As of this writing, the couple are on their way back to the Philippines. While nothing is set in stone yet as far as his next step in his career is concerned, Espiritu said it is likely the spitfire guard will make a PBA return.
NorthPort Batang Pier have the rights to Bolick.
“Once I get that clearance (from Fukushima), technically, he will be a free agent,” Espiritu said. “Pero I think with the circumstances—hindi pa namin napagu-usapan but it would be safe to say (balik) PBA dahil nga buntis asawa niya at gusto niya safe ‘yung pregnancy.”
