The DLSU Lady Spikers took advantage of the depleted Ateneo Blue Eagles, who are still reeling from injuries in UAAP Season 87.
The DLSU Lady Spikers continued to roll in UAAP Season 87 as they drubbed the depleted Ateneo Blue Eagles in four sets, 25-15, 25-14, 20-25, 25-19, to extend their win streak to three at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday.
Despite a setback in Set 3 after back-to-back dominant wins in the first two sets, the Lady Spikers recovered in time to extend their dominance over their age-old rivals.
La Salle has now won 15 straight games against Ateneo in the UAAP — with their streak lasting since 2017, where the DLSU Lady Spikers swept the Blue Eagles in the finals. Since then, they have always had the Blue Eagles’ number.
In Set 4, La Salle recovered from a 14-13 deficit midway as they leaned on Alleiah Malaluan’s clutch scoring performance which redeemed La Salle after failing to get the sweep victory in the closeout in Set 3.
But it was Shevana Laput who ended up with a career-high 25 points built off of 19 attacks, three blocks, and three aces.
Angel Canino added an all-around effort of 17 points, eight excellent digs, and four excellent receptions.
Malaluan, for her part, had 12 markers in the victory which pushed La Salle to 4-2 with one game remaining in the first round.
Lyann De Guzman paced Ateneo in the losing effort with 16 points, nine excellent digs, and five excellent receptions. AC Miner had 13 points.
Ateneo was sent reeling before the game as it was also reported that Sobe Buena has also suffered a season-ending LCL injury which further cuts their lineup.
Ateneo are losers of three games in a row and are 1-5 for the season.
