It's back-to-back first round exits in China for Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala.
Filipina tennister Alex Eala suffered another early exit in the singles qualifying tournament of the Ningbo Open as she stumbled in her first match last October 12.
Eala, who also received the boot in her opening match of the Wuhan Open, fell against Aussie tennister Priscilla Hon, 6-4, 6-3, as she struggled with her serve.
The 19-year-old was seeded 11th in the qualifiers but was errant in her service game, accumulating eight double faults in the 1-hour, 23-minute net fest that sent her packing in women’s singles.
Eala could not repeat her victory over Hon, whom she previously won over at the quarterfinals of the 2023 Roehampton where she emerged victorious in two sets, 6-2, 6-4.
But Eala will still compete in the doubles Round of 16 on Tuesday with Liang En-shou of Chinese Taipei. They face Czechia duo Ekaterina Alexandrova and Katerina Siniakova in their opening match.
Despite the early exit in both China tiffs, Eala celebrated the host country’s culture as she attended a Players Party in the WTA tiff.
After her ouster in Wuhan, Eala was also able to spend time with some of her supporters there.
Eala has competed in a total of four WTA tournaments this 2024.
