Host team France survived the onslaught from Belgium in the women's basketball semifinals, 81-75, setting up the gold medal match against defending champion USA.

The first overtime game at the Olympics in the knockout phase for 24 years also effectively created a doubles finals between France and USA for both the men's and women's titles.

In an up and down battle, Belgium erased France's 11-point lead and posted a 25-2 run heading into the third frame.

France was able to cut the Cats' lead to three, but Emma Meesseman kept Belgium alive to force overtime.

From there, it was Gabby Williams who took charge for France with nine points in overtime and 18 overall--her highest in the Olympics. Valeriane Ayayi and Iliana Rupert helped with 17 and 15 points respectively.

France had an overwhelming advantage in steals, 14-4. They also had 18 second chance points compared to Belgium's five. There was also plenty of help from the bench with 29 points, while the Cats had eight.

France will be in its second Olympic women's basketball games final, winning silver in London 2012.
