After multiple championships in a career spanning 17 years, it’s hard to imagine a player of Peter June Simon’s caliber warmed the seat every game.

But believe it or not, there was a stretch the retired Purefoods great always rode the bench.

In a recent video uploaded by PBA Motoclub, Simon admitted feeling a bit pissed then. It was only natural for players who have worked tirelessly on their craft.

“Siyempre tao lang tayo, merong pakiramdam. Magagalit ka rin. Frustrated ka rin,” he said, without recalling which year it happened exactly.

At that time it was probably not surprising since he was tabbed only in the fifth round of the 2001 PBA Draft.

But the crafty guard out of Cotabato handled it professionally. Simon made sure he was already ready.

“Naghahanda pa rin ako. Kung ano mga shots na ginagawa ko sa game, ginagawa ko sa practice para pag ipasok ako may kumpyansa pa airn ako gawin ‘yun,” said Simon, who has shown he still has it

“Every time na ipapasok ka, kait short minutes lang, pag meron kang impact sa loob hindi na made-deny ng mga coaches ‘yan.”

But that’s all in the past now.

The man dubbed the Scoring Apostle had enjoyed a decorated career in the PBA that also saw him win a Grand Slam with fellow stars Marc Pingris and James with then San Mig Coffee Mixers.

Young, aspiring PBA players can learn a thing or two from PJ.
