Marcio Lassiter hit a career milestone four days ago, knocking down his 1,173rd triple to become fifth in the PBA's all-time list of treys made.

But last night, the San Miguel marksman flubbed his lone attempt from beyond the arc as the Beermen absorbed its first loss in their ongoing PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals battle against vengeful Magnolia, 80-88, in Game Three at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Magnolia, the top defensive team in the eliminations, turned to its strength to shock the Beermen, who handily won Games One and Two.

Lassiter, who wound up with just four points on a 2-for-4 clip, believes that the Beermen just need to be better at execution once their duel with the Hotshots resumes tomorrow.

“We just got to execute. Defense is good for us. We didn't give them 100 points. We've got to fix minor things and come out a little better in Game Four,” he said.

In Game Two last Sunday, Lassiter drilled in three triples to go two ahead of idol Ronnie Magsanoc, who slipped to sixth in the list with 1,171 three points made.

“There was no way that in my first three, I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I will be Top Five.’ No way,” said Lassiter after completing the feat.

“So I’m just blessed to be in this position.”

Lassiter joined the elite group comprised of retired greats, Jimmy Alapag (1,250) and Allan Caidic (1,242), who sit at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots respectively, and current players LA Tenorio of Barangay Ginebra (1,211) and James Yap (1,189).

Not one to bask on the honor for himself, Lassiter credited his teammates' contribution in his achievement.

“I couldn’t do this without my teammates. Because they’ve been here, past and present, helping in finding me on the court. Even the coaches. [for] trusting me and my capabilities, he said.

Lassiter will look to regain his shooting touch as San Miguel aims to quickly bounce back for a 3-1 lead in Game Four tomorrow at 7:35 p.m. at the same venue.

The match will also be aired on RPTV, A2Z, PBA Rush and the Pilipinas Live app.
