All William Navarro needed were substantial minutes to deliver a tour-de-force for NorthPort.

And when he got that on Friday, Aug. 23, Navarro fired 31 big points in the Batang Pier’s 112-93 win over Terrafirma that allowed it to recover from an opening game loss in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup.

The former Ateneo standout also had five rebounds, two assists and two steals in a stellar game that did not really come as a surprise for him.

“I’m just confident lang. I know my shots are going in. It’s not surprising for me,” Navarro told reporters after the match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“Obviously, when I play more, which coach (Bonnie Tan) gave me the opportunity, I’m going to deliver. So I just have to play on the court more," he added.

Navarro saw action for 25 minutes and 14 seconds.

Navarro was grateful to Tan for giving him the opportunity to strut his stuff longer than usual when NorthPort needed to bounce back after a first game defeat to reigning titlist TNT.

“First of all, I just want to say thank you kay coach kasi binigyan niya ako ng opportunity. He gave me more minutes,” said Navarro.

After showing he could do more for the Batang Pier, Navarro is expected to be relied on more from now on. But he does not let such pressure get to him.

“There’s no pressure. As long as we stick to the system. We just have to perform. That’s it,” said Navarro.
