Amid all the drama that surrounded him two years ago, Mikey Williams is still hopeful to get back in the PBA.

Williams is set to make his return to Philippine basketball with Strong Group Athletics, competing in the prestigious 2025 Dubai International Basketball Championship, which kicks off on January 24.

The 33-year-old guard, who arrived in the Philippines on Tuesday, was present to watch the EASL match between the San Miguel Beermen and Hong Kong Eastern.

“This, of course, is home,” Williams told One Sports. “This is something I built for a couple of years, and I call this home now.”

The tournament marks Williams’ first official action since leading the TNT Tropang Giga to a championship in the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup before a contract dispute led to his departure.

Now back in the country, Williams remains focused on contributing to SGA’s success in the Dubai tilt.

“I’m just focused on being myself but also trying to contribute to the team as best as I can. As long as I’m doing my part, everything to help the team, and I know coach Charles [Tiu] is gonna get us all tuned up,” said Williams.

SGA boasts a star-studded roster, including former NBA veterans DeMarcus Cousins and Andray Blatche, as well as American imports Malachi Richardson and Terry Larrier.

Williams believes the addition of these seasoned players will be a significant boost for SGA.

“We got Dray, DeMarcus, Malachi, and Terry as our import. I think they’re gonna really help us down the line,” said Williams.

As he gears up for his return to competitive basketball, the Fil-Am combo guard is looking to write a new chapter in his career.

With the Dubai International Basketball Championship on the horizon, Williams is eager to show that he still has plenty left in the tank, while also opening his doors to a PBA return.

“Hopefully, everything will play itself out, but only time will tell,” said Williams.
