Barangay Ginebra San Miguel guard RJ Abarrientos has spoken up against gamblers who make death threats after losing bets in a PBA game.
RJ Abarrientos has had enough.
The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel guard took to social media on Friday night, February 7, to express alarm upon receiving death threats from gamblers who supposedly lost bets in a PBA game.
The Meralco Bolts had just forced a do-or-die Game 3 in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals by beating Ginebra, 108-104.
"Grabe talaga mga tao sa social media. Talo lang sa pusta, biglang death threats gamit dummy accounts, pati pamilya dinadamay pa. Paki-report! Nakakaalarma na 'yung ganitong ugali," Abarrientos wrote.
Abarrientos also shared screenshots of an Instagram user posting angry comments not just on his page, but on the page of his fiancee, Arlove de Jesus.
The user, said to have lost a considerable amount of money in betting in favor of Ginebra, hurled insults at Abarrientos and threatened to shoot not just the PBA athlete but his partner as well.
Another Instagram user, seemingly a dummy account, copied the same comments on Abarrientos' account. They claimed to have people following the player around.
"The wedding that never came," the user wrote.
They also posted on De Jesus' post: "Just paid someone for your head for 100K. Who's broke here?"
"BLOCK ME AND I'LL GO FOR YOUR FAMILY FIRST," the user added.
"Naglalaro kami ng maayos, at trabaho namin 'to, parte ng basketball ang matalo," Abarrientos said. "Sa mga kapwa ko players, 'di dapat tino-tolerate 'yung ganito."
The knockout game between Ginebra and Meralco will be held on Sunday, February 9, at Ynares Center, Antipolo.
