Scottie Thompson was almost at a loss for words when he faced reporters following Ginebra's 83-87 overtime loss to TNT in Game 7 of the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup Finals Friday, March 28.

Whether Ginebra wins or loses, Thompson usually greets the men and women covering the league with an infectious smile.

Not this time.

That’s because for the third time in two years, the Rondae Hollis-Jefferson-led Tropang Giga bested him and his Gin Kings in a best-of-seven finale.

“Tough game, tough loss. But they deserve the championship. 'Yon lang. Wala akong masabi,” Scottie said.

“Wala akong words na masabi. It hurts, but I think there’s more chance," Thompson added.

Thompson and the Gin Kings squandered a 3-2 lead in the series, losing both Games 6 and 7 by a combined eight points on the same scoreline.

In Game 7, it was anybody’s ball game until TNT showed it simply wanted the championship more.

As Ginebra closes another sorrowful chapter against its rival, Thompson has no other recourse but to focus on recovery and prepare for the upcoming Philippine Cup.

“Ganoon talaga. Bawi na lang,” he said.
