Edgar Barroga is set to coach new team Gerflor Defenders in the upcoming PVL Invitational Conference, the team announced.

Barroga has been a familiar face in the volleyball scene as he previously served as head coach for both the Cignal HD Spikers and Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors under semi-pro league Philippine Super Liga (PSL).

In 2016, Barroga initially assumed the role of general manager and later became head coach in 2018 for the HD Spikers.

Under Barroga's leadership, Cignal would exceed expectations as they reached the finals of the 2019 PSL All-Filipino Conference.

In 2021, Barroga moved to Sta. Lucia, which was playing in the PVL. By that time, the league had already transitioned to becoming a full-fledged pro league.

The veteran mentor, however, never got to coach a single game with Sta. Lucia after the franchise took a leave of absence from PVL in January 2022.

Coach Edgar, however, has turned his attention to coaching the boys' volleyball team of NU Nazareth School Bullpups. They finished UAAP Season 85 as runners-up after losing to FEU Diliman Baby Tamaraws in the finals.

With Gerflor getting busy in acquiring talent to their roster, Barroga seeks to make them a competitive team in the PVL.
