The last time FEU won over NU was on February 18, 2019. Can the Tamaraws finally end a six-year drought against the mighty Bulldogs?
It’s an early litmus test for Dryx Saavedra and the FEU Tamaraws.
Still spotless at 2-0, the Tamaraws eye a third-straight win and the solo lead in a weekend dispute with four-time defending champion NU Bulldogs in the UAAP men’s volleyball tournament Sunday, February 23, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Match time is at 12:00 p.m.
In a potential early Finals preview, FEU and NU lock horns in the first of their two regular meetings this tournament. Last Season 86, the Bulldogs became the only team to beat the top-seeded Tamaraws in the eliminations round and they did so twice.
In Season 87 though, the Morayta-based squad followed up their opening win over rivals UST Golden Spikers with a straight-set dismissal of the UP Fighting Maroons.
Dryx Saavedra led the Tamaraws with 13 points, while rookie Mikko Espartero contributed 10 markers.
Head coach Eddieson Orcullo believed that the victory over UP served as a good indication of how his squad will perform in a big test ahead against NU.
“Magandang preparation ito for Sunday’s game against NU. Yung pinakitang receiving at attacking medyo nakikita natin na maganda yung pinagmumulan, pati yung service receive maganda rin kaya siguro mas magiging maganda yung game sa Sunday,” Orcullo bared in the post-match press conference.
