Gia Day fought back tears as she expressed her joy playing for the Petro Gazz Angels during the 2025 AVC Champions League.
Gia Day couldn’t help but tear up during Petro Gazz’s post-game press conference after their heartbreaking quarterfinal exit in the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League.
The Angels nearly pulled off the five-set upset before falling to China’s Beijing BAIC Motor, 29-31, 25-19, 25-20, 20-25, 12-15, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Friday, April 25.
Day did all she could for Petro Gazz, putting up a triple double of 35 points, 17 excellent digs, and 10 excellent receptions.
“I’m very angry right now because I think that the girls did really enough for us to win. I could have kept it up in the last sets, but I’m really proud of how everyone worked so hard,” Day said during the post-game press conference.
The 26-year-old American spiker had already played in several leagues across the globe. But she would be the first to admit that her stint with the Angels was the most fun she’s had.
“It just brought tears to my eyes because the girls wanted it so bad and they had so much fun, this was like the most fun game I’ve ever played in. So I’m very thankful for them,” Day said holding back tears.
“Because coming here, I wasn’t having fun playing volleyball, but with them, I had so much fun. So I thank them very much for working hard and having fun.”

As Petro Gazz’s AVC campaign comes to an end, Day hopes to have another run with team, especially with the Reinforced Conference set in the coming months.
“For sure, for sure. The girls are so much fun, the culture is so fun. I know the season’s a very weird time, the import season. But I hope one day, for sure to return. Definitely, it’s in my future plans. If they’ll have me,” said Day.
For now, it’s rest and recovery for the Angels after their short turnaround from their PVL All-Filipino championship.
