The arrival of the Gerflor Defenders into the PVL has opened up doors for a handful of volleyball players to make their return to the pro scene.

Head coach Edgar Barroga says the excitement of his squad is palpable during their trainings.

“Makikita mo sa kanila 'yung eagerness kung gaano sila gumalaw sa loob ng court, parang mga bata,” Barroga said on Monday in an interview on One Sports’ The Game. “Excited kami na mai-apply namin sa tunay na laro ‘yung mga ginagawa namin.”

Loaded with veterans like Fhen Emnas and Rapril Aguilar, Barroga bared that the Defenders have also been doing well in their tune-up games, which only adds to their excitement ahead of their PVL debut.

“Although bago 'yung team pero most of them are veterans, so it's easy for them to get my system,” said Barroga. “Excited ako dahil lahat ng mga naka-tune up namin medyo tinalo namin.”

Barroga, who is concurrently the coach of boys' volleyball team of the NU Nazareth School Bullpups, admitted that there had to be major changes in his coaching style as he goes from teaching teenagers to handling professionals.

“Iba 'yung approach sa high school ng mga bata, pero dito, this time, kailangan ang approach mo sa kanila medyo malumanay,” said Barroga. “Ang nakakatuwa, ang dali nilang makuha kaya ang bilis ng development ng team namin.”

The Defenders seek to translate their preseason momentum to actual games when the PVL Invitational Conference starts on June 27.
